The Partnership Between Dewey Data and Vizion Empowering Academic Research

February 3, 2025

Dewey Data's partnership with Vizion represents a step forward in expanding access to high-quality supply chain data for academic research. By integrating Vizion's aggregated data into Dewey's platform, researchers gain access to robust datasets that shed light on critical aspects of global trade and logistics.

Through this collaboration, Dewey Data subscribers will  have access to the following Vizion datasets:

Import Performance Dataset: This dataset provides insight into how efficiently ports are operating, including how performance has changed over time. It shows the average time from when a vessel arrives to when containers gate out for a look into end to end port processing. Key data points include vessel events, dwell times, and container volumes.

Export Performance Dataset: This dataset provides insight into how efficiently ports are operating regarding export activities, including how performance has changed over time. It shows the average time from when a container gates into a port to the time the container departs the port on a vessel for a look into end-to-end port processing. Key data points include vessel events, dwell times, and container volumes.

Trade Volumes Dataset: This dataset contains TEU volume and travel time metrics per port pair, per day. This data set helps users uncover trends in trade between global ports of lading and ports of discharge globally. Monitoring trade volumes over time can help you understand if shipments today are taking longer than they have in recent weeks, months, or years.

Ocean Carrier Performance Dataset: This dataset provides metrics on ocean carrier travel time and ETA delay across global trade lanes. It captures key indicators such as carrier ETA reliability and transit time trends broken down by major ocean carriers for major tradelanes as well as more detailed region to region travel

Vizion Index Port Performance: This dataset provides a monthly summary of import, export, and transshipment performance across global ocean ports. It captures vessel volume and time values, along with container dwell times and TEU volumes. For more granular, daily-level insights, users can access the performance data of their choosing (import, export, or transshipment)

The collaboration between Dewey Data and Vizion simplifies the often-complex process of acquiring unique logistics datasets for academic purposes. Dewey alleviates the complexities of accessing data, and the integration of Vizion datasets into the platform marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration between data providers and the academic community. “This partnership marks a significant milestone for Vizion and we are excited to launch it alongside Dewey Data”, said Kyle Henderson of Vizion. “For the first time, we’re collaborating with an academic platform, opening new doors to empower researchers with the data and insights they need to tackle complex global logistics challenges”

Evan Barry, CEO of Dewey Data, reciprocated those thoughts by mentioning “Academics focused on supply chains and economic trends will be excited about this partnership. Vizion’s data not only provides deep insights into port performance and efficiency, but also container volume and information on the countries that are importing and exporting goods. We’re thrilled to make this powerful data accessible to all Dewey subscribers, unlocking new opportunities for research and analysis”.
